Dacrymyces palmatus (Schw.) Bres. Fruit body 1-2.5cm high, 1-6cm wide, a large, lobed, brain-like mass; bright orange to deep orange-red, with a white rooting attachment at the base; horny when dry. Flesh tough, gelatinous, becoming softer and finally melting away. Spores cylindrical to sausage-shaped, smooth, becoming 8-10-celled, 17-25 x 6-8ยต. Deposit yellowish. Habitat on coniferous wood. Found throughout North America. Season May-November. Not edible.
